DSS Custom Builds created a set of wearable, can-shaped insulated backpacks for Coopers beer to use at a festival. Each unit needed to hold pre-chilled drinks, open easily for service and look like an oversized Coopers can.
Printing the can-shaped top and base
We 3D-printed the tops and bases to give the backpacks the shape and detail of a real can. The lids lift off to access the drinks inside. We printed the handles separately for strength and used silky silver filament for the metallic finish, so the printed parts did not need painting. HIPS panels in the top and base added insulation around the cooler.

Rolling and wrapping the body
The cylindrical bodies were formed from thin galvanised steel. We passed each sheet through the roller until it reached the right circumference, used light tack welds to hold its shape and secured the assembly with the backpack hardware.
The Coopers graphics were printed with latex inks onto chrome film and then laminated. Chrome was a sensitive material to print and apply, so getting a clean finish took persistence. Branded flags completed the units: HIPS panels covered with laminated Coopers vinyl.

Ready for the festival
The finished backpacks combined the look of a giant Coopers can with the practicality of a wearable, esky-style cooler. Beer went in already cold, while the insulated body helped protect it during use. Seeing the finished units worn at the festival brought the whole build together, and the client was delighted with the result.
