Custom 3D Signs & Lettering

DSS Custom Builds creates custom 3D signs and dimensional lettering for shopfronts, offices, retail spaces and events in Melbourne.

Choose from wood, metal or acrylic, with the design, colour and finish considered alongside the setting. For suitable custom profiles, DSS can also 3D print low-profile lettering on its dedicated 1200 × 1200 × 100 mm letter printer.

3D Shopfront Signs

Dimensional letters give business names and logos a physical presence on a shopfront.

Discuss wood, metal and acrylic options, including a material and finish suited to the location and appearance you want.

Halo and backlit effects are options to consider as part of your signage brief. Tell us whether illumination is required.

Our Work

Burger Days: 3D shopfront signage at United Petroleum, Frankston

Burger Days wanted its shopfront at the United petrol station in Frankston to stand out. DSS completed the full shopfront with red ACM panel cladding and custom 3D letters. The white lettering and burger logo contrast with the red frontage, making the shop easy to recognise from the parking area.

FROM THE DSS WORKSHOP

COFFEE: illuminated 3D lettering with a folding roof mechanism

This custom COFFEE sign brings together carbon-fibre 3D printing, a remote-controlled lifting mechanism and a distinctive inner-and-outer LED effect. The workshop photos and video show the letter construction and lighting during testing.

Built for the roof, designed to fold flat

The letter bodies were 3D printed in carbon-fibre material and water sealed for their outdoor setting. A remote-controlled actuator raises the sign from the roof and lowers it to lie flat when retracted. The mechanism was a custom part of this build, developed around how the sign needed to be used.

Two LED paths create the effect

LEDs follow the inner and outer contours of the letters. The two lighting paths create the contrasting colours seen across the letter faces. The open-letter photograph shows the LED arrangement before the face is fitted; the short video demonstrates the colour effect on a workshop test letter.

Planning your 3D lettering project

What affects the cost of 3D signs?

Letter size, quantity, depth, material, finish, artwork preparation, lighting and installation all affect the quote. Moving mechanisms and custom controls add their own design and fabrication requirements. Send your wording or logo, approximate dimensions, site photos and target date so DSS can quote for your actual brief.

Which material should I choose?

DSS offers wood, metal and acrylic options, with 3D-printed construction available for suitable custom projects. The choice depends on the shape, finish, location and how the sign will be used. The carbon-fibre construction in the COFFEE project was selected for that particular build.

Can 3D letters include lighting?

Yes. Halo and backlit effects are options to discuss, alongside custom lighting such as the inner and outer LED arrangement shown here. Include your preferred colours, effect and control requirements in the brief.

What needs to be considered for outdoor installation?

Share the proposed location, mounting surface, access, exposure and available power. Materials, sealing, mounting and any moving parts need to be considered together for the intended setting. See our sign installation services to plan the next step.

Can you quote from my existing logo?

Send your existing artwork along with the intended sign size and site photos. Tell us whether it is for a shopfront, interior, exhibition or another setting, and whether you need illumination or a custom mechanism.

Not sure which material or depth suits you? Read our 3D letters guide to materials, depth and installation.
